A unique way to explore Béziers by mini-train
One of the distinctive features of this day is the journey between the various stops. After exploring the Basilica of Saint Aphrodisus, participants take the little train towards the site of the nine locks at Fonseranes.
This stage takes you out of the historic centre to discover another side to the Béziers area. In Fonseranes, the tour continues with a visit to a particularly unique animated nativity scene. Created in 1932 by Brother Lucien and subsequently expanded in 1977 by Brother Perreux, it brings to life numerous characters and scenes using a mechanical system comprising, in particular, wheels, pulleys and old motorised components.
This Fonseranes’ lively nursery is one of the highlights of the morning. It combines tradition and mechanical engineering in a show that appeals to children and adults alike.
From Fonseranes to the Béziers Christmas market
Following this discovery, the little train takes visitors back to the Allées Paul-Riquet. The rest of the morning is then a chance to enjoy the Christmas market located in the heart of Béziers. The free time scheduled around lunchtime gives you the chance to spend the rest of the day at your own pace.
This break also offers a wonderful opportunity to soak up the atmosphere of the town centre in December. The lights, decorations and various Christmas events are gradually transforming Béziers into a festive destination. The official Christmas programme confirms that the town is hosting a number of events during this period, particularly around Place Jean-Jaurès and the historic centre.
